Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park, the icon of Tanzania, captivates with endless savannahs, abundant predators and the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebras — an unforgettable, legendary safari destination.

The Serengeti National Park is one of Africa’s most iconic natural areas. Vast plains, spectacular wildlife and the famous Great Migration make this park one of the top destinations for a safari in Tanzania.

A journey through vast savannahs

The Serengeti National Park covers around 30,000 km² and stretches across northern Tanzania and a small part of Kenya. As you travel through this vast landscape, you experience the raw beauty of the savannah — from open grasslands to acacia woodlands, from riverbanks to rocky kopjes (low granite hills).

The vegetation changes with the seasons: during the rainy season, the plains turn lush and green, while in the dry season many animals gather around rivers and waterholes.

A natural paradise with extraordinary biodiversity

Thanks to its vast, largely uninterrupted habitat, the Serengeti National Park is home to one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. Wildlife you may encounter includes lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, numerous hoofed animals (wildebeest, zebras and gazelles), hyenas, kudus, giraffes, crocodiles, hippos, a wide variety of bird species, and much more.

The Great Migration — during which millions of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles move each year in search of fresh grass and water — is one of nature’s true wonders. This epic journey takes the herds through different regions of the Serengeti, as they brave river crossings, predators and the constant challenge of survival.

The Great Migration

Each year, one of the world’s most spectacular natural events unfolds in the Serengeti National Park: the Great Migration. More than two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles undertake a vast circular journey in search of fresh grass and water.

During this epic migration, the herds cross endless plains and brave dramatic river crossings, constantly pursued by predators such as lions, crocodiles and hyenas. It is a powerful spectacle of life and survival, played out against the backdrop of the infinite savannah.

Seasonal movement of the herds

(Feel free to contact us in advance — we’re happy to advise you on the best timing and locations.)

  • Rainy season (December–May): The herds are often found in the southern Serengeti, where calving takes place.

  • Early dry season (June–July): The migration moves northwards.

  • Peak season (July–September): Dramatic river crossings at the Grumeti River and Mara River — among the most spectacular moments of the migration.

  • Autumn (October–November): The animals gradually return south.

The Great Migration is considered one of the “Seven New Natural Wonders of Africa”, and experiencing it makes a safari in the Serengeti truly unforgettable.
