Our Story
Behind Kwikwi Tanzania lies a story of passion, connection and a genuine love for Tanzania. Discover how an initial visit grew into a second home, and how that deep bond is reflected today in every journey we create together.
The story of Kwikwi Tanzania began in 2010, when Tine climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. The breathtaking landscapes made a deep impression, but it was the warmth and kindness of the people that brought her back two years later to volunteer at a local orphanage.
A family beyond borders
There, she met Mama Dee — an extraordinary woman who became a true mother figure to us and to the Tanzanian children. Since then, we have been committed with great love through our non-profit organisation Moja Tanzania to helping give these children a brighter future.
Tanzania soon became our second home. Today, our own two children regularly travel with us, sharing unforgettable adventures with their Tanzanian brothers and sisters.
“Wewe ni kwikwi!”
We are often asked where the name Kwikwi comes from. It is a loving nod to Mama Dee. Whenever the children were up to mischief, she would laugh and say: “Wewe ni kwikwi!” — “You’re a bit crazy!”
For us, this name symbolises the humour, playfulness and relaxed spirit of the Tanzanian people we hold so dear.
The circle is complete
After Mama Dee passed away in 2022, we decided to carry her strength and vision forward. The children from those early years have since grown into confident young adults. With Kwikwi Tanzania, we are building a new bridge by creating fair and meaningful employment opportunities for them within our travel organisation.
By travelling with us, you become part of this story. For us, the circle is complete: sharing our passion for Tanzania while genuinely supporting the local community. We could not imagine a more beautiful dream.
